Measuring a roof

without ever

a ladder

Measuring a roof on site takes half a day, and often it wins no work. For Dakwerken Jennes we built a measurement based on Belgian height data. That piece has grown into Tectio, a brand of its own that any roofing firm can use on its own terms.

Tectio did not start as an idea but as part of something else. We built an automatic roof measurement for Dakwerken Jennes, and it has been doing its job there ever since launch. Other roofing firms asked whether they could have that part on its own. So it is becoming a brand in its own right.

The challenge

Measuring on site costs a drive out, time and a ladder. And it is the step that most often comes to nothing: put together five quotes and win one, and you climbed onto four roofs for no return. Measuring is usually done with a tape or off an aerial photo, so what ends up in the quote is often an estimate. A wrong estimate comes straight out of the margin.

Our approach

Belgian buildings have been scanned from the air, giving detailed height data. We use it to reconstruct the roof at a given address in 3D: every roof plane with its area and pitch, every ridge, valley, gutter and edge with its length. The contractor enters nothing more than an address and gets a model they can turn around on screen, with a measurement report to show the customer.

That report is a deliberate part of the product. It shows where the quantities came from, and it makes clear that the measurement is based on data rather than on a guess from the pavement.

The result

At Dakwerken Jennes the measurement has become a standard part of the quote: the figures are there before anyone has been out to look. Three firms are now running it as a pilot and measuring real roofs for real quotes.

Where it goes from here

What comes out of that pilot decides what still changes before the launch in September 2026. From then on Tectio stands on its own as a brand and an Ulvio subsidiary, separate from the app the measurement grew up in.
